The German carmaker Opel has finally gone electric with the new sixth generation Corsa-e. As anticipation built ahead of the vehicle’s world premiere in June, photos of the model were leaked, forcing Opel to release official photos and information ahead of schedule. So here they are…
The all-electric Corsa-e is Opel’s first foray into electric mobility. Preliminary data from WLTP testing has determined an initial electric driving range of 330 kilometers for the vehicle. With 100kW (136hp) power output and a maximum 260 Nm of instantaneous torque, the Corsa-e is set up to be a fun, responsive and dynamic drive. Opel’s initial data claims that the Corsa-e can go from zero to 50 km/h in only 2.8 seconds, and zero to 100 km/h in 8.1 seconds. That’s fast.
The Corsa-e is fitted with a variety of charging options. Whether you prefer cable, wallbox, or high-speed charging, you’re covered. The 50 kWh battery is capable of being fast charged in just 30 minutes to 80% capacity, and is covered by an 8-year warranty. Not sure how much charge you have left? You can check with the “myOpel” app.
The five-seater is versatile in that the driver can select their preferred driving mode: Normal, Eco, or Sport. These can be manipulated to improve range or the dynamics of the vehicle. Opel has also included an intelligent lighting system, IntelliLux LED® Matrix light, which will continuously adapt lighting to the vehicle’s surroundings. Several other connectivity and safety features are included to assist drivers, in addition to the Opel Connect traditional telematics systems.
In Opel’s press release, the company states: “Opel has chosen the brand’s most popular model to finally bring electric mobility out of its niche-existence. The Opel Corsa is an absolute bestseller. More than 13.6 million units have been produced since the world premiere in 1982. The Corsa has made millions of people mobile; now it is offering them access to emission-free driving.”
The world debut for the Corsa-e is scheduled for June 4th, when it will also be available for purchase and the price will be released.
